methods of teaching. Students' seminars, group discussions and practical classes on therapeutic problems are being
introduced. These methods help the students to gain overall knowledge about the subject .Reviewing the teaching and
evaluation methods by feedback from students and modification of methodologies accordingly is very important to make this
subject interesting and relevant. Hence, the present study was planned to determine the opinion of students regarding current
teaching practices and reforms to be made in pharmacology teaching. This was a cross sectional, questionnaire based study.
The study instrument was a self- developed, prevalidated semi-structured questionnaire. The most interesting class for the
students was lectures (41.58%),followed by demonstrations(17.45%),seminars(15.42%) tutorials & practicals each(11.68%).
24.29% of students preferred chalk board technique. Regarding their view on practical classes 41.12% students opined it to
be theoretical, lacking use of psychomotor skills(10.74%),deficient in applied aspect(33.64%) ,but informative(33.74%).
77.10% students felt the need of pharmacy exercises, 88.37% wanted computer assisted learning as a replacement to animal
experiments .Thus 68.22% students wanted modification in practical curriculum. 48.59% participants insisted for post lecture
test for each topic ,48.13% demanded inclusion of clinical pharmacology,42.52% wanted introduction of group discussion,
33.64% opined about making lectures more interactive. Students were satisfied with the current pharmacology teaching
system, with certain modifications in practicals.
<Email>jaiswalkavita37@yahoo.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>5</volume><issue>3</issue><year>2015</year><keyword>Teaching technology,Questionnaire based study</keyword><AUTHORS>Jaiswal KM,Pimpalkhute SA,Sontakke SD,Bajait CS,Gaikwad A</AUTHORS><afflication>Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Government Medical College, Nagpur, 440009, India.,Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Government Medical College, Nagpur, 440009, India.,Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Government Medical College, Nagpur, 440009, India.,Assistant Professor,Department of Pharmacology, Government Medical College, Nagpur, 440009, India.,JR III, Department of Pharmacology, Government Medical College, Nagpur, 440009, India.</afflication></Article></Articles>
