have antioxidant and anti-tumor properties in freund‟s complete adjuvant induced arthritis in wistar rats by analyzing its
biochemical parameters. The study was performed on wistar rats of either sex weighing 180-200 gms. Experimental Arthritis
was induced by injecting 0.1 ml of 5% of freund‟s complete adjuvant into the tibio tarsal joint of the left hind paw
intraarticularly. Apigenin was given at a dose of 50mg/kg and 100mg/kg body weight for 28 days. Blood sample was
collected on days 1, 7, 14, 21 and 28 for Erythrocyte Sedementation Rate (mm), Serum C- Reactive Protein (mg/l) and
Rheumatoid factor (IU/ml) estimation by intraocular puncture. The results showed marked reduction in biochemical
parameters in arthritis induced rats by apigenin at a dose of 100mg/kg which was comparable to the reference standard group
treated with dexamethasone.
<Email>vijaisundar@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>5</volume><issue>3</issue><year>2015</year><keyword>Apigenin,Arthritis,Wistar rats</keyword><AUTHORS>E Vijai Sundar,Vanitha Samuel,Beyaril Chitra C,Predeep Kumar V</AUTHORS><afflication>Assistant Professor, Department of pharmacology, Tirunelveli medical college, Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu, India,Professor, Department of pharmacology, RMMC&H, Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Tamilnadu, India.,Assistant Professor, Department of pathology, Kanyakumari Government medical college, Kanyakumari, Tamilnadu, India.,Clinical pharmacologist, Apollo Hospital, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India.</afflication></Article></Articles>
