cognition, emotion, perception and other aspects of behavior. Objectives to compare the efficacy, tolerability and safety
profile of Asenapine and Olanzapine. The present study was a prospective, open labeled, randomized controlled study.
Written consent was taken and the patients were divided randomly into two groups of 50 patients each, with one group
receiving Tab. Asenapine (5-10 mg/day) and the other group, Tab. Olanzapine (5-15 mg/day) for 6 weeks. Tolerability and
safety profile were evaluated by comparing the adverse effects experienced by the patients with the standard adverse effect
check list prepared for the study. Required investigations were done before, during and after the study. The data collected was
subjected to statistical analysis. Both the drugs were well tolerated with Asenapine group having more number of adverse
effects whereas Olanzapine group had an increase in number of patients with significant weight gain. Olanzapine showed
better tolerability and safety profile than Asenapine.
<Email>ramspsm@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>5</volume><issue>4</issue><year>2015</year><keyword>Tolerability,Safety,Asenapine,Olanzapine</keyword><AUTHORS>Lakshmipathi BS,Shah Naseeruddin.Makandar, K.Lakshminarayana</AUTHORS><afflication>Tutor, Department of Pharmacology, KIMS, Koppal, Karnataka, India.,Post Graduate, Department of Pharmacology , VIMS, Ballari, Karnataka, India., Professor & HOD, Department of Pharmacology , VIMS, Ballari, Karnataka, India</afflication></Article></Articles>
