commonly defined as ―first-generation‖ antipsychotics, resulted in the introduction of second generation drugs. Hence this
study carried out to compare the efficacy of Asenapine and Olanzapine. The present study was a prospective, open labeled,
randomized controlled study conducted in VIMS, Bellary in 100 patients of schizophrenia. Patients were divided randomly
into two groups of 50 patients each, with one group receiving Tab. Asenapine (5-10 mg/day) and the other group, Tab.
Olanzapine (5-15 mg/day) for 6 weeks. Efficacy was assessed by using PANSS scale. The mean reductions in PANSS score
at the end of the study (6 weeks) did not show any significant difference between the two groups.
<Email>ramspsm@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>5</volume><issue>4</issue><year>2015</year><keyword>Efficacy,Asenapine,Olanzapine</keyword><AUTHORS>Lakshmipathi BS,K.Lakshminarayana,Subramanya BK</AUTHORS><afflication>Tutor, Department of Pharmacology, KIMS, Koppal, Karnataka, India,Professor & HOD, Department of Pharmacology, VIMS, Ballari, Karnataka, India.,Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, KIMS, Koppal, Karnataka, India</afflication></Article></Articles>
