<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><Articles><Article><id>115</id><JournalTitle>PRESCRIPTION PATTERN ANALYSIS DURING PREGNANCY IN A TERTIARY CARE TEACHING HOSPITAL</JournalTitle><Abstract>A Prospective cross-sectional study was carried out in order to assess the prescription pattern in pregnant women.
The study subjects were 385 pregnant women from ante natal clinic at MES Medical College, Perinthalmanna. The recruited
patients were interviewed to collect the socio-demographics details, disease signs and symptoms, diagnostic techniques used.
Prescriptions and treatment charts were reviewed for the treatment information. The treatment information like type of the
drug used, duration, route, dosage form and other laboratory dataâ€™s were also collected. The changes in the prescribing drugs
or their doses or duration were also documented. The safety of drug use in pregnancy was also evaluated. Study shows that
the common age group of pregnancy was 21 to 25 years with 32.5%. The majority of Pregnant women were house wife from
rural area (91%) and most of them are (99%) with a high school level or more than high school level education. From the
analysis, a total of 1333 drugs were prescribed with rate of 3.5 drugs / prescription. The main outcome measures were
Calcium, Iron, and Folic acid are the main drug of choice during pregnancy, either alone or in combination with other drugs.
The use of proton pump inhibitor and H2 blocker were also very common during pregnancy. Cephalosporin like cefotaxime
and cefixime were the most commonly prescribed antibiotic during pregnancy. And the uses of antibiotics were very
common during third trimester of pregnancy. Majority of drug used during pregnancy was comes under safe category A and
