Also diabetics are
more prone to surgery and its complications as compared to their non-diabetic counterparts. The study compares three
different regimes of insulin for their efficacy, complications and cost-effectiveness, most commonly used to manage DM in
perioperative period. These regimes are combination of shorter acting and longer acting analogues in Pre mixed and Split
mixed forms. Total 171 diabetic patients admitted in SMS Hospital, Jaipur for some major elective surgery were enrolled into
the study. On randomization they were divided into three groups receiving Regime A, B and C respectively. Regime A was
Premixed Regular and NPH (R+NPH premixed) in ratio 30:70,Regime B was Split mixed Regular and NPH (R+NPH split
mixed) and Regime C was Regular and Glargine (R+Glargine split mixed). When compared statistically it was observed that
the group of patients who received longer acting Glargine showed better basal control of blood sugar with lesser
complications and it was also better in terms of cost effectiveness than NPH given both in premixed and split mixed form.
<Email>alkabansal04@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>5</volume><issue>4</issue><year>2015</year><keyword>Insulin,Surgery,Perioperative</keyword><AUTHORS>Alka Bansal,Shivankan Kakkar,Monika Mishra</AUTHORS><afflication>Assistant Professor,Department of Pharmacology, SMS Medical College, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.,Senior Demonstrator, Department of Pharmacology, SMS Medical College, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.,Professor, Department of Pharmacology, SMS Medical College, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.</afflication></Article></Articles>
