more than 50% of men will have microscopic evidence of the disease and by the age of 85 years, about 90% of men will be
affected. A prospective, open labelled, randomized study was done in the Department of Urology, VIMS, Bellary. Written
consent was taken at the start of study. 40 patients with moderate or severe BPH according to AUA (IPSS) score with LUTS,
in the age group of 50-75years , with prostate weight upto 60gm, PSA value < 4ng/dl were chosen for the study. Mean age,
prostate wt, pre-op Hb, pre-op haematocrit, resection duration, amount of irrigating fluid used & prostatic tissue resected were
similar in both groups & were not statistically significant. Finasteride may be used pre-operatively in BPH patients
undergoing TURP to reduce bleeding & its complication.
<Email>Veena@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>6</volume><issue>1</issue><year>2016</year><keyword>Finasterid, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia,TURP</keyword><AUTHORS>Veena V, K.
