elderly. The pathological hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease is widespread neuritic plaques which are accumulations of amyloid
beta protein and neurofibrillary tangles. Research report that deficit in cholinergic system is responsible for cognitive decline
and memory loss in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Various pharmacologic approaches are developed for the treatment of
Alzheimer’s disease. The leading edge therapies of Alzheimer’s disease are approved drugs; Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors
and NMDA receptor antagonist.Clinical benefits of the available pharmacological treatment for AD with antidementia drugs
(namely cholinesterase inhibitors and memantine) are unquestionable, although limited to a temporary, symptomatic support
to cognitive and related functions. The ultimate measures of success of such a treatment approach are improved quality of
life, delayed institutionalization, slowed rate of progression of the disease, people who achieve their potential, and reduced
need for medication. The pharmacological agents used for treatment of Neuropsychiatric illnesses include antipsychotics,
antidepressants and mood stabilizers. Treatment of Alzheimer’s disease also includes health maintenance activities and
proper nursing care of the patients.
<Email>Sshail2006@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>6</volume><issue>2</issue><year>2016</year><keyword>Alzheimer’s disease,Treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, cholinesterase inhibitors, neuroprotective agents, Drugs</keyword><AUTHORS>Shailendra kumar verma,Madhurima saha</AUTHORS><afflication>Shri Ram Murti Smarak College of Engineering & Technology (Pharmacy), Bareilly (U.P) India,Shri Ram Murti Smarak College of Engineering & Technology (Pharmacy), Bareilly (U.P) India</afflication></Article></Articles>
