commonly defined as “first-generation” antipsychotics, resulted in the introduction of second generation drugs with the
archetype Clozapine. These are now the mainstay of treatment in several countries. Even after the introduction of 2nd
generation antipsychotics, some drugs are likely to produce certain untoward effects like weight gain, hyperglycemia and
dyslipidemia; drug-related cardiac changes (QTc prolongation) have also been reported. patients were divided randomly into
two groups. One group was given Tab. Olanzapine 5-15mg/day & another group, Tab. Asenapine 5–10mg/day. The patients
were given treatment for a period of 6 weeks and were followed once every week. Olanzapine showed better tolerability than
Asenapine in patients with schizophrenia. The unique pharmacokinetic and novel pharmacodynamic properties of Olanzapine
make it a safer antipsychotic when compared to FGAs.
<Email> ramspsm@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>6</volume><issue>2</issue><year>2016</year><keyword>Efficacy,Tolerability,Asenapine,Olanzapine</keyword><AUTHORS>Lakshmipathi BS,Subramanya BK</AUTHORS><afflication> Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, KIMS, Koppal, Karnataka, India,Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, KIMS, Koppal, Karnataka, India.</afflication></Article></Articles>
