<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><Articles><Article><id>192</id><JournalTitle>DRUG UTILIZATION PATTERN OF ANTI-HYPERTENSIVE DRUGS IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL: A PROSPECTIVE, CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY</JournalTitle><Abstract>To evaluate the drug utilization pattern of antihypertensive drugs in patients attending medicine OPD in a tertiary
care teaching hospital. A prospective, cross sectional study was carried out in Medicine department for a period of 2 months.
Patients who attended the medicine Outpatient department (OPD) with hypertension were included in the study. Patients who
were not willing to participate in the study were excluded and the data were analyzed. Out of 170 patients, 50% were male
and 50% were female. Most common age group involved in our study was between 61-70 years (36.3%) followed by 51-60
years (31.11%) and 41-50 years (14.81%). Among all the antihypertensive drugs, ACEIs (52.43%) were most frequently
prescribed class of drugs followed by CCBs (32.04%), diuretics (6.79%), ARBs (4.85%) and B blockers (3.88%). Out of total
135 male patients, 40.74% patients received monotherapy and 59.26% patients received combine therapy. The results of this
study will be useful in future for making standard treatment guidelines. It also promotes the rational prescription and rational
use of drugs.
