of a tertiary care hospital. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study was carried out in 1st and 2nd year under
graduate medical students. A structured questionnaire was developed for evaluation of knowledge, attitude and practice
of antibiotic usage. All the students were informed about the study and written informed consent was taken. The data
was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Total 138 (85.19%) students were participated in the study. Among
them, 63 (45.65%) were males and 75 (54.35%) were females. 96.66% of the respondents agreed that misuse of
antibiotics can lead to a loss of sensitivity of an antibiotic to a specific pathogen. We observed that 89.05% of
participants were not usually taking antibiotic just for fever. About 75.23% respondents think that frequent use of
antibiotics will decrease efficacy of treatment when using the antibiotic again. Conclusion: The present study gives
useful information about the knowledge, attitudes and practices of antibiotic usage among undergraduate medical
students. This information can be utilized for educational interventions which may improve antimicrobial prescribing
pattern and it can minimize the development of resistance.
<Email> ashwin_panchasara@yahoo.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>11</volume><issue>1</issue><year>2021</year><keyword>Antimicrobial resistance,Knowledge,Attitude,Practice,Practice,antibiotic prescribing</keyword><AUTHORS>Het Patel,Ashwinkumar K.
