Morus alba (L.) is a mulberry native to eastern and central China. It became naturalised in Europe hundreds of years ago. It is a flowering, woody, perennial plant that grows quickly. It is classified as a member of the Moraceae family. Mulberry, Morus alba (L.), has been popular since time immemorial. This is due to the fact that it has both pharmacological and economic value. Mulberry leaf use in sericulture has been documented in ancient Chinese literature and is thus well known. The therapeutic value of mulberry, Morus alba (L.), has been documented in ancient literature and Ayurveda. Some ayurvedic therapeutic preparations use the fruits, leaves, roots, bark, or latex of the mulberry, Morus alba (L.), to treat a variety of human diseases. A 100 g serving of raw mulberry fruits contains 180 kJ (43 kcal), 44 percent of the Daily Value (DV) for vitamin C, and 14 percent of the DV for iron, among other nutrients. Mulberry, Morus alba (L.), has been shown to improve digestion, lower cholesterol, aid in weight loss, increase blood circulation, build bone tissues, and boost the immune system. Morus alba (L.) fruit also helps to prevent certain cancers, slow the ageing process, lower blood pressure, protect the eyes, and improve overall body metabolism.
