various in vitro methods. Different concentrations of Sapindus emarginatus was used to evaluate the antioxidant effect.
Antioxidant screening methods such as DPPH assay, scavenging of nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide were determined.
Total reducing power and antioxidant capacity of the hydroalcoholic extract were evaluated. Sapindus emarginatus showed
moderate scavenging effect towards the DPPH radicals, nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide when compared to ascorbic acid.
Total reducing power and antioxidant capacity were moderate when compared to ascorbic acid. Thus, the present research
study added scientific evidence to the antioxidant potentiality of Sapindus emarginatus which may be due to the
phytoprinciples present in it.
<Email>akrishnaveni72@rediffmail.com</Email><articletype>Review</articletype><volume>3</volume><issue>2</issue><year>2013</year><keyword>antioxidant,reducing power,Sapindus emarginatus,Sapindaceae</keyword><AUTHORS>Krishnaveni A,Santh Rani Thaakur</AUTHORS><afflication>Department of Pharmacognosy, Madurai Medical College, Madurai-625020, Tamilnadu, India.,Professor, Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology, Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam (Women’s University), Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India - 517502.</afflication></Article></Articles>
