38EFFECT OF HERBS ON PERIODONTITIS – A SERIOUS GUM INFECTIONPeriodontitis, or gum disease, affects millions of people each year. Periodontitis is a serious gum infection that damages periodontium (the soft tissues and bones present around tooth for support). The disease mainly occurs when bacteria in plaque infect the gums and bones that anchor the teeth. The infection caused due to overgrowth of pathogens like Actino bacillus, actinomycetem comitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Dialister pneumosintes, Bacteroides forsythus and Treponema denticola leads to Periodontitis. In this review we discuss various clinical pathological aspects of Periodontitis.
