99COMPARISON OF ORAL AND VAGINAL MISOPROSTOL IN INDUCTION OF LABOUR AT TERM PREGNANCY IN NULLIPAROUS WOMENTo compare efficacy, acceptability, and safety profile of misoprostol administered by oral and vaginal route for induction of labour in term nulliparous women. A prospective, randomized and comparative study was conducted. 200 eligible women were randomly assigned into oral and vaginal groups each consisting of 100 subjects. Oral group received 25 mcg oral misoprostol 2 hourly and in vaginal group, 25 mcg tablet was placed in the posterior fornix every four hourly. Statistical analysis of data was done by using Chi- square test / Fisher’s exact test, Student-t test & Mann Whitney test. Induction to vaginal delivery interval was significantly higher in oral group (p <0.01). Statistically significant number of women delivered vaginally within 24 hours in the vaginal group. Total misoprostol dosage and oxytocin requirement was significantly more in the oral group (p < 0.01). Caesarean section rate was significantly higher in the oral group. The labour complications, neonatal outcome and acceptability was comparable in between the two groups.
